The Javits Center was built in 1986 and is named for
former New York Senator Jacob K. Javits. The facility
is located on the west side of Manhattan between 34th
and 38th Streets and 11th and 12th Avenues. Visitor
amenities include 2 food courts, wireless internet access
and numerous business centers. The Javits Center presently
contains 760,000 square feet of exhibition space, 30,000
square feet of meeting space and 540,000 square feet
of pre-function/core space. Recently, a major $1.7 billion
dollar expansion project was begun and is expected to
be completed in 2010. The expansion project will more
than double the size of the complex and add 45% more
exhibition space, 600% more meeting space and 74% more
pre-function/core space.
